Slopes and water don't play nice. When a hillside starts shedding soil every time it rains, it doesn't take long before you've got a real problem on your hands - eroded ground, muddy runoff pooling against your foundation, and a yard that's basically unusable. That's exactly what we were dealing with here. The slope behind the building had already started cutting away, leaving exposed soil and scattered rock with nowhere for the water to go.

The first step was getting the hill cut back and graded properly. That meant real excavation work - moving material, reshaping the slope so it could actually hold, and giving us a clean canvas to work from. Once the grade was right, we trenched in drainage to handle the water moving through the site. You can see the gravel-packed trench cut right through the excavated area - that's the kind of detail that keeps a repair like this from failing down the road.

With the drainage in place, we moved into the hardscaping side of things. Large natural boulders were set along the base of the slope to hold the toe and keep material from migrating down onto the gravel drive. Behind that boulder border, we packed in crushed stone across the entire hillside face. That stone isn't just decorative - it absorbs impact from heavy rain, slows water movement, and keeps the slope stable long-term.

Then came the sod. The flatter areas around the building got a full turf install, giving the property a finished, usable yard where there was nothing but bare dirt before. That combination of drainage, stone, and sod is what makes an erosion fix actually last. Each layer does a specific job, and together they stop the problem at the source instead of just covering it up.

Erosion issues like this don't get better on their own - they get worse with every rain event. If you've got a slope that's moving material, water cutting channels where it shouldn't, or bare ground sitting against your foundation, it's worth getting it looked at before a manageable fix turns into a major one.
